"Adam Shelby" (sideways-wrx)

Its 8 a.m on a cold Monday morning.I'm driving along enjoying the thrill of turbocharged all wheel drive and 8 inches snow with a good ice pack underneath.
There's a little orange light on the dash that's trying to tell me something. It begs me to heed its warning . But alas i am a stubborn fellow and there were sweet awd drifts to be had out at the local school parking lot dammit. I shall not be stopped by you sir a.b.s light.
I crest a hill start to ease on the brakes to slow down for a steep downhill section of road. Its a straight shot with a sharp hairpin at the bottom but its solid ice. About halfway down the brakes lock "Shit shit shit" we start on a unstoppable slide. My poor summer tires dig for traction but there's none to be had. Then i see it we are heading for a 15 ft embankment. And at the that very bottom of said embankment the wrx fulfilled it's purpose and met the tree that destiny had slowly grown for it over the years.
All dramatic story telling aside the subaru is going to be down for awhile. May the cabin fever begin.

man that car had been through a foot and half on summers with abs out hundreds of times no problem. But as I know it just takes one mistake one time. Yes it was my fault never said it wasnt. I'm not arguing that point I fucked up I hit the brakes a little to hard. But really though thanks for stating everything I already knew. And it's not lost not nearly

Yeah the abs had been out since I bought the car. I was so used to it that I didn't bother fixing it.

you realize if you had proper snows shoes this might have not happened right?
like shit, its one thing if you are a non car person. but you CLEARLY are. so why place yourself (and others) in danger? That's just just beyond words for me.
Hope you learned the lesson.

I did learn my lesson man and I'm not forgetting it any time soon. And I really admire the way you rode the line between being a dick and kinda helpful at the same time.
And yes I know if I had the proper rubber it would have been completely avoidable. But I live in the south and we only see snow a few times a year and it's never really been as frequent and deep as it has been this winter so dedicated winter tires wasn't really an issue.
Believe me though once she is back on the road. I'm purchasing some dedicated winter rims and tires. They may only see use a few times a year but it'll be worth it.

you never need it until you do, and then you REALLY need eh?
you got lucky. that could have been a LOT worse.
as for the car. IDK if its save-able. looks like the actual frame is bent, not just a crumpled fender. Take when you want off of it, and get what you can at a scrapyard.

Yeah its fucked up but it still runs drives with just a slight pull. The strut tower took most of the force from the hit. If it hit anywhere else it would be so much worse.
Its time for it to become the rally car it was meant to be though.

So it's actually got fairly serious structural damage then. That sucks, dude.

Doesn't seem necessary until it was the one thing that would have made a major difference in that situation.
I am not planning on it being back on public streets or ever looking nice again it's rally car/toy time. The strut tower took the brunt of the hit which really saved the frame. I have a friend who owns a body/frame shop and it drove the 5 miles to the body shop fine with the slightest pull to the right.
If it was just a regular family car it would have already been scrapped. But that little thing has been way to good for me to doom it to the scrap yard.

Yeah from the very front end back to the strut tower is just cosmetic. But once you hit the strut tower and back it's serious. I got a friend that owns a body shop and they do some really good frame work and they have saved worse.
